Setting Sail
The moment the dock lines were cast off, something shifted inside me. The hum of the city faded, replaced by the gentle slap of water against the hull and the creak of rigging overhead. We were heading into open water with nothing but a compass, a chart, and the wind to guide us.
Lessons from the Sea
The ocean teaches patience. You cannot rush the wind or argue with the currents. You learn to read the sky, to feel the shift in the air before a storm arrives, and to find peace in the vast emptiness of the horizon.
Days blurred together — sunrise watches, fixing lines, navigating by the stars. Each task was simple, necessary, and deeply satisfying. There was no room for the noise of daily life out here.
Finding Port
After three weeks, we spotted land. A small island with a crescent harbor and a village of colorful houses. The locals greeted us with fresh fish and stories of their own voyages. In that moment, surrounded by strangers who felt like old friends, I understood that the best journeys are the ones that take you somewhere you never planned to go.
